SHILLONG: The Ardhendu Chaudhuri Charitable Trust on Sunday launched the free monthly ration and pension schemes for the old and the poor at the Rilbong Hindu Dharma Sabha Hall.
Former Mawprem legislator Manas Chaudhuri, who is also the Managing Trustee of Ardhendu Chaudhuri Charitable Trust, gave away the free ration cards to as many as 70 beneficiaries who can claim the ration from the co-operative store, Rilbong within 10th of every month.
The ration scheme is for one year starting from June and will be renewed after the expiry of the present scheme.
The beneficiaries under the pension scheme will receive their pensions at their door steps.
These welfare schemes were made possible due to financial assistance worth Rs 5 lakh provided from the monthly pension of former MLA Manas Chaudhuri to the Ardhendu Chaudhuri Charitable Trust.
Writer Uma Purkayastha and retired teacher Rita Ghosh, who spoke on the occasion, lauded the efforts of Ardhendu Chaudhuri Charitable Trust in reaching out to the poor and the needy.
