TURA: A doctor in charge of a PHC in West Garo Hills has been accused of misusing his powers and grabbing a portion of the money meant for ASHA Workers under the State Government’s NRHM Scheme.
According to a complaint made by villagers, Medical and Health Officer in charge of Jeldupara PHC, Dr Amin Nongrum allegedly demanded and collected 50% from the amount meant as honorarium for 14 ASHA workers for the distribution of mosquito nets under the NRHM Scheme.
The villagers also claimed that Dr Nongrum stayed away from duty for long durations greatly inconveniencing the patients who come to the PHC for treatment.
“Due to his absence patients of PNC (postnatal care) mothers who are entitled to get Janani Suraksha Yojana (JSY) money were unable to get it in time. Some of them who come from far away have been forced to come repeatedly,” they added. Addressing their complaint to the Director of Medical and Health Services, the villagers have urged the official to look into the matter and to transfer Dr Nongrum at the earliest.
