SHILLONG: With an alliance of non Congress parties working wonders in Assam, non Congress political parties in Meghalaya are now nurturing optimistic about such an alliance to dethrone the Congress in the State.
Speaking to The Shillong Times on Tuesday, United Democratic Party (UDP) working president Bindo M. Lanong said the system of alliance has worked tremendously well in the last Tura Lok Sabha by-polls and the UDP would continue to forge alliance with likeminded regional parties to serve the people.
Reacting to a query on whether the party would perform well, since the UDP could not manage even 10 seats in the last assembly elections in the State, Lanong said time has changed and even the political scenario in the country and the region has changed. “This makes me optimistic of a good show in the   2018 assembly elections,” he said.
“It is time that people in a democratic setup like India gives    an opportunity and a chance to others to serve the people,” he said.
He further said whoever is the government in the State needs to deliver and efforts must be taken to contain the practice of corruption. He recalled that recently a file of important papers pertaining to a scam in the Health department had gone missing.
“The fittest should survive and get the opportunity to serve the people,” he said.
