Nongpoh Town Committee warns of mass protest
NONGPOH: The Nongpoh Town Committee on Thursday submitted a memorandum to the State Transport Minister reiterating its opposition to the installation of a weighbridge at the DTO office campus Nongpoh.
Programme development secretary of Nongpoh Town Committee, Rayonald Kharkamni told The Shillong Times that in case the State Government fails to reply positively to their demand, the committee will invite the traditional heads, local NGOs and public under the Nongpoh Town committee, especially the villagers of Umlyngkdait, to stage mass protest against the move.
Meanwhile, the Ri-Bhoi Tourism and Developmental Forum, in press release issue here on Thursday also expressed support to the Nongpoh Town Committee’s demand for removal of the weighbridge currently under construction.
On Wednesday, the Dorbar ki Rangbah Shnong, Ri Bhoi had also lent its support to the Nongpoh Town Committee. Members of the Dorbar ki Rangbah Shnong and the village committee had gone to the site to take first hand account of the ongoing developments.
