Ownership of land at Mawjymbuin cave in Mawsynram
SHILLONG: The Seng Khasi Hima Mawsynram’s claims of the ownership of the land at Mawjymbuin cave, Mawsynram and its demand to remove some chapters from the book Dienjat Ki Longshwa has been termed as baseless by the Joint Action Committee (JAC) comprising of six Seng Khasi under Hima Mawsynram.
Addressing a press conference here on Friday, JAC chairman D.K. Wahlang, repudiated the very existence of the organization and said, “We have no ties with the Seng Khasi Hima Mawsynram and hence we reject their claims.”
The JAC comprises six Seng Khasi under Hima Mawsynram including Seng Khasi Nongrum Mawsynram, Seng Khasi Khliehshnong Mawsynram, Seng Khasi Lawbah, Seng Khasi Mawkaphan, Seng Khasi Kenbah Syntein and Seng Khasi Jympiat.
“The formation of the Seng Khasi Mawsynram Circle is to make people aware that we have no association with the Seng Khasi Hima Mawsynram and have nothing to do with their functioning,” Wahlang said.
Interestingly, Wahlang added, “It is the Seng Khasi Hima Mawsynram that had submitted a memorandum to Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his visit to Shillong recently.”
The Seng Khasi Hima Mawsynram led by Tyllilang Myrthong as president and Batista Myrthong as secretary has claimed ownership of the land at Mawjymbuin cave and have called for omission of chapters 4, 12, 14, 17, 21, 24, 25, 49, 50, 51, 52 and 53 from the book Dienjat Ki Longshwa asserting that the book imbued Christian values/thinking.
Wahlang, meanwhile, asserted that the JAC will not interfere with the Education department over the issue of inclusion of the said book in the syllabus.
