Guv releases AG commemorative monograph

SHILLONG: Governor V. Shanmuganathan released the commemorative monograph on completion of over 100 years of the Shillong offices of the Accountant General as well as Lyndhurst Estate, the residential complex for IA & AS officers, at Durbar Hall, Raj Bhavan here on Thursday.
Speaking on the role of officers and staff of the AG, Shanmuganathan said, “Accountability makes performance transparent… The department should work for austerity, sincerity, honesty as well as accountability.”
The highlights of the monograph included copies of some of the very old and important photographs, references, maps, memos etc., depicting pictures that depict the history of Lyndhurst Estate and the offices of the erstwhile Comptroller, Assam.
The offices of the AG, Meghalaya have a history dating back to as early as 1910 when the office of the Comptroller, Assam was established in Shillong.
The monograph contains a brief history of the Institution of Comptroller and Auditor General of India which dates back to the mid-19th century. The photography illustrates the office buildings, Lyndhurst Estate and Motinagar A&A Estate and the narrative combines a lucid account of the history with some previously untold stories.
The monograph aims at capturing the interest of the general public through the illustrations and its historical importance.
It may be mentioned that the State Government had declared Lyndhurst Estate as a heritage property under the Heritage Act in June 2015.
Among other dignitaries present on the occasion were H. Marwein, Additional Chief Secretary, M. S. Rao, Principal Secretary, R. V. Suchiang, Principal Secretary, Rajesh Singh, Director General, C&AG of India, Shillong.
