SHILLONG:  With the burden of three FIRs filed against her and anticipatory bail, Evangeline Kharbuli (39), accused of duping several job seekers, has revealed that she was in the dark about how much money her accomplice Shanbor Mawlong collected from the applicants.
Speaking to The Shillong Times on Friday at a city based hospital where she is undergoing treatment since Thursday, Kharbuli said that she was forced to sign an agreement by Mawlong in city in the presence of a lawyer on July 5 regarding the reimbursement of money which was collected and allotment of two vehicles to him.
“We wanted to see the agreement, but Mawlong did not show it to us as he forced my sister to sign the document”, said the youngest sister of Kharbuli.
It was based on the FIR filed by Mawlong on July 14 that Kharbuli was arrested by police on the same day, but bail was granted to her after she fell ill.
Asked about the media reports based on the FIR of Mawlong that she had duped over 450 job seekers  and collected  Rs 2.4 crore, Kharbuli said, “I have not collected that much amount. What  Mawlong provided me was a few thousands of rupees on three occasions at three places, Civil Hospital junction, near MUDA parking lot and Dhanketi.
While admitting that she wore a police uniform, Kharbuli regretted of following the wrong path.
“I have already submitted my uniform to one lady police officer Nongbri at Mairang”, she said.
According to Kharbuli, Mawlong had sought her help for the recruitment of youths in police.
She, however, denied having any connection with any police official or politicians.
At the hospital bed, Kharbuli said that she realized her mistake and vowed that she would never repeat the same in future.
Kharbuli filed a counter FIR against Mawlong on Wednesday with the police for threatening her over phone and also for using abusive language.
