Mawhati bridge collapse

NONGPOH: Voicing its concern over the recent collapse of a bridge, which was being constructed under the PMGSY scheme, at Pamlatar under Mawhati constituency, the Synjuk Ki Dorbar Shnong Mawhati Area demanded action against the contractor and engineers involved in the project.
The bridge, work for which was being executed by M/S Dhar Construction Company, had collapsed on August 24 injuring seven workers.
The traditional heads of Mawhati area alleged that poor supervision on the part of the PWD as well as shoddy work by the construction company caused the bridge to collapse.
Speaking to newsmen at Umsning, president of Synjuk ki Rangbah Shnong Mawhati Area Marius Jyrwa said that the headmen’s body strongly condemns the substandard construction of the bridge and also blames the PWD for not properly monitoring the construction work.
The headmen’s body demanded strong action against the contractor and said further inquiry should be conducted to punish the erring engineers too.
