TURA: Aggrieved employees of the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC), who are going without salary for around ten months now, have decided to go on an indefinite strike from Monday next week.
The decision was taken at a meeting held on Thursday at the Captain Williamson Sangma Point. All employees, including chowkidars and plumbers, will cease work though attendance in their respective offices will continue. The employees have also unanimously decided not to accept the Rs 10,000 that was earlier proposed as relief payment.
Meanwhile, all employees have been cautioned against violence or causing damage to council property.
It may be mentioned that following a meeting of the non-gazetted Garo Hills Autonomous District Council Employees Association earlier on April 29, the council had assured that salaries of all the staff, officers and MDCs would be disbursed on priority basis until all pending amounts are cleared and that payment of all pending contract bills would be put on hold for the time being. But nothing was done in this regard prompting the employees to start agitation.
