Asks party to fast-track govt schemes
SHILLONG: Chief Minister Mukul Sangma has stressed on the need for more aggressiveness in implementing various Government programmes.
The statement emerged after the meeting of the Congress Legislature Party (CLP) that reviewed the implementation of the promises made by the Congress during the 2013 Assembly elections.
Speaking to media persons after the meeting of the CLP here on Wednesday night, Sangma said embarking on new development programmes is one thing but actual implementation of such programmes is a different challenge.
“Though we are on track with regard to the promises made but we need to fast-track our programmes that will enable us to compensate for the time that we have lost in preceding decades,” Sangma told reporters.
Stating that the initiatives of the previous governments were disrupted and dislocated due to various challenges such as insurgency, the Chief Minster said the party and the Government needs to walk the extra mile to fulfil the aspirations of the people.
He further stressed on the synchronised efforts of all to put the State at the highest pedestal of development.
The Congress, which had released its manifesto on February 11, 2013, for the 2013 elections had promised to provide two LPG gas cylinders in addition to the nine provided by the Centre at subsidised rates to each household, free computer tablets to schoolchildren above Class IX, wedding assistance of Rs 15,000 to orphans of marriageable age and one lakh affordable houses to the needy over the next five years.
The Congress had also promised to create 10,000 jobs for women by promoting women-centric industries, another 10,000 for the youth in the Government sector and one lakh new job opportunities in non-Government sector, besides providing livelihood security under the Integrated Basin Development and Livelihood Programme (IBD&LP).
The party had even promised to support one lakh farmers under the IBD&LP, besides operationalising the Meghalaya State Technical University.
The party had even promised to implement the Smart Grid technology for scaling up the utilities so that the quality as well as availability of power is enhanced.
