SHILLONG: The High Court of Meghalaya has deferred the decision related to holding the by-polls to seven district council constituencies to September 14 even as the Supreme Court will take up the special leave petition on the matter on Friday.
Earlier, the State government had filed an affidavit stating the decision of the cabinet to hold the polls on December 13 and counting on December 16.
However, after the High Court disapproved the date fixed by the cabinet, the State government had filed the special leave petition in the Supreme Court.
The election calendar fixed by the Cabinet said that the process of election will begin from the publication of draft electoral rolls on October 10, while the date of polls will be on December 13. The counting votes will be held on December 16.
