Aizawl: Two women were brutally murdered in a jhum near Chhuarlung hamlet in Saiha district of Mizoram last night, police said.
Elizabeth (28) of Chhuarlung hamlet was found inside her jhum hut in a naked state, with her arms tied behind, fractured neck and several injuries on the back of her head and forehead.
Her head was covered with ‘thlangra’, a bamboo tray for sifting and winnowing grain.
The wounds were most likely inflicted with a machete, the police said, adding that she was apparently raped before being murdered.
The body of another 60-year-old woman Sidey was found outside the jhum area of the same village.
It had multiple injuries apparently caused by a blunt weapon. The place is near the Myanmar border.
Saiha district SP Armendra Kumar Singh has rushed there. (PTI)
