CM says action plan on climate change with Ministry

SHILLONG: The State government has submitted its action plan on climate change to the Union Ministry of Environment and Forest.
Replying to a motion moved by Opposition MLA Ardent Basaiawmoit on the impact of climate change, Chief Minister Mukul Sangma said talks are on with the Ministry over the State’s action plan and added that all states have to come on board while engaging with the Centre on the issue.
Sangma advocated on the need for livelihood in agriculture, fishery and forest, which are resilient to climate change, even as he stressed on creating more awareness among people.
Basaiawmoit, while moving the motion, said the government should adopt measures to educate people on the importance of preserving nature.
Referring to erratic weather worldwide, Sangma said Meghalaya “is not insulated from climate change as there is a rise in temperature in the State”.
