TURA: Four NGOs from Garobadha – the GSU, FKJGP, AYWO and GHSMC – have submitted a memorandum to Tura MP Conrad K Sangma urging him to look into various problems being faced by the people of the region.
One of the demands made by the NGOs included construction of embankments with boulders and from Sangkarigre up to Mukdangra area along River Ganol to prevent soil erosion.
Pointing out that the population in Garobadha has increased, the NGOs highlighted the need for better quality education. “Garobadha only has Garobadha Government Higher Secondary School and St Dominic Higher Secondary School, which is not enough as people find it difficult to come to Tura to pursue their education due to the high cost of renting homes and other necessities. So there is a need for setting up a degree college there,” the NGOs said.
The NGOs also raised concern over the poor functioning of Zekabari Higher Secondary School and Nongrum College in the same area, which are allegedly running without Garo Lecturers since their inception.
Further, recalling the death of a student involved in a bus mishap due to the failure of the area’s PHC to provide proper aid, the NGOs sought upgrading of the PHC into a full-fledged CHC so that it can provide better service to the general public.
