NONGPOH: The villagers of Umsawnongkhrai on Tuesday come out in support of the headman who has allegedly “ruled like a dictator”.
William Syngkli and Kyrshan Nongrum had alleged that the headman, Angelus Sun, had misused his authority. The villagers, however, blamed the duo and called them troublemakers.
A villager said the allegations were levelled to tarnish Sun’s reputation.
Sun said the issues came up after he was re-elected as headman. “These two rebel leaders wanted to be in power and tried to level baseless allegations against me,” he added.
Sun informed that Kyrshan had earlier contested the election for the headman’s post where he lost by a huge margin. Soon after the election was over, the duo, along with few others and a section of the media, alleged that the election was not conducted as per traditional custom.
Meanwhile, Sun as well as the villagers alleged that Kyrshan and William had misused Rs 5.40 lakh from village fund. “Till now they have not returned the money,” Sun alleged and added that the village Dorbar of Umsawnongkharai will soon take legal action.
It may be mentioned that in April, the RBYF Umsning Circle had alleged that Kyrshanskhem, then acting headman of Rilong, had demanded Rs 50,000 from villagers who want to register their land and Rs 100 per household for various schemes.
