SHILLONG: The Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) on Friday apprised the Chief Secretary on the illegal practices of the personnel manning the four weighbridges on National Highway 44 who are overcharging truckers without issuing receipts.
A delegation of BJYM East Jaintia Hills District, led by State youth wing president E. Kurkalang, met Chief Secretary K.S Kropha and expressed concern over the delay by the government in setting up the integrated check-post/weighbridge as ordered by the Supreme Court.
Speaking to media persons after the meeting, Kurkalang said trucks plying on NH 44 are forced to weigh their loads in at least four weighbridges located in Malidor, Byndihati, Seven Mile and 13 Mer (Ri Bhoi).
He alleged that the truckers are forced to shell out between Rs 300 to Rs 500 in each of the weighbridges.
The chief secretary told the delegation that the integrated check posts will take some more time due to land acquisition hurdles and assured that he would ask the line departments to expedite the process
