TURA: Commuting for hundreds of villagers, especially students, of 11 hamlets in West Garo Hills will now be easier as the motorable bridge on the Dimbri stream at Sapalguri has been opened.
Ashahel D Shira, Parliamentary Secretary for Water Resources and Rajabala MLA, inaugurated the bridge, which connects Bhajamara road with Batabari road, on Wednesday. It will benefit as many as eleven villages, like Sapalguri, Bandabok, Kalamati, Ketkipara and Nayapara.
“The bridge will shorten the travel distance and most importantly people need not worry about rising water levels of the Dimbri during monsoon. Schoolchildren will also benefit immensely,” said Shira.
Earlier, children studying in schools at Batabari, Bhajamara and Sapalguri had to walk a long distance through difficult terrain and found it difficult to commute during monsoon.
