SHILLONG: The Sub Divisional Magistrate, Sohra Civil Sub Division has promulgated an order under Section 144 CrPC prohibiting all heavy vehicles carrying goods and stones more than a permissible weight via the Shillong-Sohra-Shella road. The order has been passed in view of the information received that goods and stones laden heavy vehicles plying through the road are at times carrying load exceeding the permissible weight of 9 (nine) tons. Meanwhile, the Sub Divisional Magistrate, Sohra Civil Sub Division has also prohibited persons/organisations, acting or purporting to act on their behalf from indulging in activities of any kind in the whole stretch of Shella Umiam and Thariaghat and within 100 meters on both sides of the said river banks. The order has been passed in view of the information received that there is all likelihood of extraction of boulder and sand from the river beds of Shella Umiam and Thariaghat.
