SHILLONG: NEIGRIHMS on Monday revealed a series of incentives for doctors who are willing to serve in the institute. The selection process to fill the vacant posts will be completed in a month’s time, the institute said.
In response to a news report on insufficient faculty in the institute, Dr Manuj Kr Saikia, the chief spokesperson and public relations officer, said on Monday that various incentives are being provided to attract and retain the faculty members.
The incentives are pay and allowances on a par with AIIMS in New Delhi and PGIMER in Chandigarh, Assessment Promotion Scheme for the faculty to provide promotional avenues irrespective of the availability of vacancies, access to attend international and national conferences and participation as resource persons or selection committee members and others on invitation by various government institutions. Other facilities include payment of double HRA to faculty and officers of the institute serving on deputation from outside the North East as a special incentive and reimbursement of children’s tuition fees, as per government rates.

According to Dr Saikia, the institute has also earmarked funds for providing intramural grant to faculty members as seed money for research purposes.
Moreover, the faculty members are also provided a one-time free furnished accommodation within the institute’s campus.
Dr Saikia said at present NEIGRIHMS has 83% faculty strength and there are 33 functioning super specialty and specialties’ departments catering to patient care services.
“The faculty strength has doubled from 2012 with the concerted efforts of the institute’s administration,” he added.
However, the public relations officer admitted that it is a fact that there is acute shortage of faculty in all medical institutions across the country.
“The institute has already taken steps to fill the vacant positions and the selection process is likely to be completed within a month,” he added.
