NE fest in Delhi to explore culture and food of region

New Delhi: The ‘North East Festival’ beginning next week at the Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts here will promote rich cultural heritage of the north eastern region.
The three-day festival, will showcase the rich cultural heritage of all the north eastern states including handicrafts, food, fashion, music, dance, tourism and much more. It will kickoff on November 4.
Talking to UNI, chief organiser of the North East Festival Shyamkanu Mahanta said, “A large exhibition of handloom, agro and food products from North East called ‘Make in North East Exhibition’ would be open on display with around 100 entrepreneurs participating from the region.”
He also said rock music contest among colleges and bands of the national capital is one of the new additions in this year fest.
Mahanta said, “Musicians comprising Bollywood singers from Assam– Zubeen Garg and Papon, rapper Borkung Hrangkhal, DJ Zaeden, rock bands Traffic Jam, Fourth Element, Mo & The Shooting Stars, Reverse Tragedy and many more will perform in the festival.”
“This year we will organise a seminar dedicated to flood and erosion that affects the region, where experts from across the country would congregate and discuss to find a permanent solution on the issue,” the chief organiser said.
He said, “the seminar would be presented by Water Resources Department of Assam, where ministers, officials of different states of the region and Centre will participate.”
Besides these, live art, a photography exhibition showcasing the vivid wildlife and natural beauty of the region, an art workshop with 20 talented young artistes, games would be organised, Mr Mahanta said.
He also said the fest is a platform to promote business for the North east entrepreneurs, apart from building bridges with Delhi.
The chief organiser said, “in last year, two lakh footfall was recorded at the festival. We are expecting high numbers of people this year and no entry fee would be charged.” (UNI)
