SHILLONG: NPP president Conrad Sangma on Thursday denied allegations of central fund misuse by the executive committee of the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC).
Speaking to The Shillong Times on Thursday, the Tura MP said the allegations were “baseless and incorrect”. “If any one writes a letter and alleges something, it does not mean all such allegations are correct,” Sangma said.
The Garo Students’ Union has alleged that the GHADC has misused Rs 100-crore central development fund and has flouted Niti Aayog guidelines in disbursing fund and allotting projects to different areas of Garo Hills.  Sangma said on Thursday the GHADC Executive Council had adhered to the guidelines of Niti Aayog and that there was no question of any scam. He questioned the timing of the allegations when the process of using the fund has begun.
“Though NGOs have the right to question but the EC of the Council will ensure overall development of Garo Hills. We are committed to ensuring that all development works take place without any glitches,” he said.
Sangma’s denial comes a day after the BJP’s state unit in charge Nalin Kohli constituted a two-member team to inquire the alleged misuse of the Rs 100 crore and non-transparency in the Council’s allotment of contracts for several projects.
The present EC in GHADC is supported by two BJP MDCs.
