SHILLONG: The All Meghalaya SSA School Teachers’ Association (AMSSASTA) has asked all SSA teachers to come together against the State government’s decision to set different pay scales for upper and lower primary teachers based on qualifications.
Arguing that the government’s decision is in violation of the Centre’s Project Approval Board guidelines, the SSA teachers’ body said when all teachers are working same hours and putting in the same effort.
The association had submitted a memorandum to Education Minister Deborah Marak on November 7 requesting her to reconsider the decision to shift the 4th teachers from the upper primary to the lower primary section and urged the government to take concrete steps to enhance the salary of the former category to bring the on a par with all SSA teachers.
They had also asked the government to release the new revised pay to all SSA teachers in the State as recommended by the PAB 2016, without any categorisation according to qualification since SSA School teachers are contract workers.
It questioned the government’s recent decision to implement a categorization system based on qualification, since the in-service teachers are yet to complete their 45% improvement exam.
