SHILLONG: Majority of SBI ATMs in the state have been calibrated to receive the new Rs 2,000 notes even as shortage of Rs 100 notes is a cause for worry that prompted the SBI management to take up the matter with the ministry concerned.
An SBI official on Thursday admitted that there is a shortage of Rs 100 notes whereas the ATMs are dispensing Rs 2000 notes without any hurdles.
The SBI authorities here have already taken up the matter with the higher ups, including the Finance Ministry, to release more Rs 100 notes to tide over the shortage. “We hope that the shortage will be addressed by next week,” he added.
He said with the release of new Rs 500 notes shortly, the situation will be normalised.
While the exchange of old currency notes in Shillong was worth Rs 5 crore, for the entire East Khasi Hills district, it would be Rs 10 crore.
