Cong celebrates Indira Gandhi birth anniv

SHILLONG: The Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) celebrated the birth anniversary of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi on Saturday.
Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) president D.D.Lapang formally inaugurated the State level year-long celebration of the late leaders’s 100th birth anniversary.
Lapang led the party in lighting the ceremonial lamp and paid floral tributes to the late leader.
Lapang in his inaugural address touched upon the life of late Indira Gandhi from her childhood, when she had plunged in to the freedom movement.  He also recalled how Indira Gandhi returned to power in 1980 with a thumping majority, facing all odds, as she felt that ‘people were supreme and they had made her supreme’.
Lapang also remembered, with deep respect, how the late leader, sacrificed her life to protect the nation on the face of Khalistan issue, as she was confident that “every drop of her blood” would strengthen the country.
The programme was chaired by James S.Lyngdoh, working president,  MPCC who spoke on the elaborate arrangements made by the AICC at the National level and by the MPCC at the State Level to observe the year in a befitting manner.
Leaders from different wings of the party also attended the programme.
