SHILLONG: The Border Security Force (BSF) has voiced its concerns to its Bangladesh counterpart over the presence of Indian militants in the neighbouring country’s territory and provided documents in support of its claims.
In a meeting held between BSF and Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) in Syllhet, inspector general of the Meghalaya government P.K Dubey showed “documentary proofs” of Indian insurgent groups like GNLA, ULFA, HNLC, NDFB and NLFT living in Bangladesh.
Dubey, who led a delegation to a four-day border coordination confe-rence with BGB, also listed out other crimes purported along the border. Smuggling of fake Indian currency notes, forest produce and cattle theft by Bangladeshis in the Indian territory were also discussed.
The Bangladesh border security force, on the other hand, flagged its apprehensions about firing, killing and injuring unarmed Bangladeshi nationals by Indian locals and smuggling of drugs, including Phensedyle and liquor.
However, BSF refuted the allegations of killing of Bangladeshi nationals by Indian villagers and intimated that when the Bangladeshi criminals had illegally entered into the Indian territory at odd hours for committing theft, only they might have been confronted by local villagers in self-defense.
BSF also asked BGB to discourage Bangladeshi nationals to cross the international boundary to avert confrontation and urged its counterpart to jointly curb illegal activities.
The issue of construction of a single row fence within 150 yards from the Indian border was also deliberated upon for obtaining clearance from the Bangladesh government.
