Book publishing course to conclude today
The one week certificate course in Book publishing organized jointly by National Book Trust, India (NBT) and North Eastern Council (NEC) will conclude on Tuesday. C.K. Das, Member, NEC, Robert G. Lyngdoh, Vice- Chancellor, Martin Luther Christian University, Som Kamei, Director, Postal Services, NE Circle K.H. Kharshing, Planning Adviser, NEC and G.K.Chin, Financial Adviser, NEC will address the participants in the valedictory function to be held at 3.00 p.m at NEC Auditorium, Nongrim Hills. The course not only imparted know how to the educated youth of Assam and Meghalaya on Book Publishing as a career, but also oriented them on various aspects of book publishing and promotion across the globe. The organizers are planning the course in a bigger scale for the Northeastern Region next year, the NEC said in a statement.
GHADC MDC withdraws EC support
MDC from 8-Amongpara GHADC Constituency, Jinberth R Marak (Goera) has announced his withdrawal of support to the current executive committee of the GHADC. In a statement issued here on Monday, Marak said that he decided to withdraw support to the current EC is as his views during discussions were disregarded by his colleagues. “I requested the present EC not to draw Council funds anymore as employees are yet to be paid their salaries for many months, but in vain. Therefore, I have withdrawn my support to the EC as well as resigned from the membership of the Cotton Grovers Association. However, I have not resigned from the GNC,” Marak stated.
GNC bodies re-constituted in Gambegre
The new office bearers of both the Garo National Council (GNC)’s General body and Youth Wing in Gambegre were elected in a meeting held recently in the area. The office bearers of the party’s general body included Sengdora Ch Sangma as President, Cherak Ch Marak as Vice President, Menthu M Marak as General Secretary, Sajan Ch Sangma and Genous M Marak as Assistant General Secretaries, Nikseng B Marak as Chief Organizing Secretary and Sanjing S Sangma as Asstt Organizing Secretary besides 16 other executive members. GNC also elected new office bearers elected for tis Youth Wing.
Police arrests extortionist
Police has arrested one person for allegedly demanding Rs 30000 from a person. Mahamsing M Sangma lodged a complaint that during the month of October, he received phone calls from an unknown caller who demanded Rs. 30,000 and threatened him with dire consequences. In this connection, on November 19, Police arrested one Raksin Ch Marak for his involvement in the case.
Workshop held on online safety
North East Network, a women’s rights organisation, in collaboration with Centre for Social Research, Delhi conducted 6 workshops in the city on online safety and counter speech from November 16-18. The workshop ‘Social Surfing’ is a project supported by Facebook India and was carried out in Jettwings Institute, St Anthony’s College, Lady Keane College, St Edmund’s College, Women’s College and EFLU (English Foreign Language University) NEHU. The workshop built the capacities of participants on understanding the significance of Internet, online safety, optimal use of counter speech, and need for gender sensitive cyber etiquette.
