SHILLONG: North Garo Hills deputy commissioner S.C Sadhu has prohibited forcible collection of money from the drivers of coal trucks by some groups.
The deputy commissioner said some groups are forcing trucks carrying 9 MT or less coal to move to the off-loading site from the weighbridge and forcibly collecting money from the drivers of such coal trucks.
He also said it had been brought to his knowledge that some coal-laden trucks are in the habit of overtaking other trucks on NH-62 mostly between Wageasi-Dainadubi integrated check point causing traffic jam and inconvenience to the regular movement of vehicles.
Under Section 144 of the CrPC, the district magistrate prohibited all the trucks plying over North Garo Hills district through the NH-62 carrying coal beyond 9 MT. “Overtaking of coal laden trucks along the NH-62 between Wageasi and Dainadubi Integrated check point, diverting of coal-laden trucks which are carrying 9 MT or below 9 MT from the weighbridge at Sarangma to the offloading site was also prohibited.”
There is also prohibition on forcible collection of money by the secretary or a member of such groups from the trucks drivers.
The district magistrate asked the truck drivers not to leave vehicles unattended on NH-62 causing traffic snarls.
