CM condoles death; 3-day state mourning

SHILLONG: Chief Minister Mukul Sangma on Tuesday expressed condolence over the sudden demise of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa who passed away on Monday night.
“I am deeply saddened at the demise of honourable Jayalalithaa ji. Her death leaves a deep void in not only her state but also in the nation as well,” Sangma said.
He further said the departed leader will always be remembered for the numerous poverty alleviation initiatives pioneered by her to provide better and more meaningful life to the people especially the less fortunate.
He further said such initiatives have been replicated by governments both in the centre and other states as well.
3-day state mourning
Meanwhile, three-day mourning has been announced in Meghalaya as a mark of respect to late Jayalalithaa. All state government offices will observe state mourning till December 8.
A statement issued by the General Administration Department said there will be no official entertainment during the period of state mourning.
