SHILLONG: The MPCC chief Friday Lyngdoh has stressed on implementation of Right to Education (RTE) Act saying that this act could only see the light of the day with equal participation of various educational institutions in the State.
Participating at the inaugural ceremony of the platinum jubilee celebration of the DNS Wahlang Memorial School here on Thursday, Lyngdoh said, “schools should take the lead to see that the act becomes reality”.
Recollecting contributions of the founder of the school DNS Wahlang, the MPCC president said DNS Wahlang saw the growth of education in the state and volunteered to start the school in order to promote education in the state.
“Wahlang was a man with a mission, an eminent educationist of the era and because of his sacrifices the school has progressed this far”, he said while urging the students to follow his footsteps.
Earlier, Additional Director of School Education and Literacy W Lyngdoh stressed on the role of the teacher in shaping the future of the children adding that “Teachers have a greater responsibility in shaping the future of students”.
The school was established on February 11, 1937 under the name of Khasi Pnar Academy ME School by late DNS Wahlang, on the premises of the YMCA, Mawkhar. On July 23, 1954 the school was shifted to Mission Compound.
