SHILLONG: The BSF and the Border Guards Bangladesh on Sunday paid homage to BSF heroes of the 1971 Indo-Pak War.
Major General Abul Hossain, Director General of BGB, and other members of the force visited the War Memorial at Kilapara in West Garo Hills, which is known as a place of sacrifice, cooperation and friendship between Bangladesh and India.
The names of the nine BSF martyrs, whose supreme sacrifice denied the strategic control over the Dalu-Tura road during the Liberation War of Bangladesh, are engraved in golden letters on the War Memorial, which stands on the Indo-Bangladesh International Border. It was the BGB Director General’s first visit after taking charge.
The BGB team was received by P.K Dubey, Inspector General of the BSF Meghalaya Frontier. Hossain laid wreath at the memorial.
Sacrifice made by Late Mohammad Ashfaq, who had deserted the Pakistani Air Force and joined Mukti Bahini in Mymensingh, was also remembered.
War Memorial Kilapara also carries with it an untold saga of miseries, sufferings and bravery. The Dalu-Kilapara area was one of the strategic places in the Liberation war of Bangladesh, situated across Mymensingh district. During the short visit, the commanders of both the sides also discussed various issues and decided to co-operate with each other to resolve them amicably. The DG BGB expressed the need to maintain friendly relations between both the forces.
