NONGPOH: The Airports Authority of India’s (AAI) proposal to establish a medical centre at Umroi under its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) five years ago for the benefit of the public as well as the passengers is still a distant dream as the project is yet to take off.
The matter was raised by the members of Dorbar Shong of Umden Umsaitprah during a press conference at Umroi on Thursday.
The village leaders said that the proposal for setting-up of a medical centre at Umoi was made way back on July 26, 2011 in a meeting between AAI officials and AT Mondal, the then Transport Minister.
The leaders further informed that they have donated a piece of land measuring around 8000 Sq. Ft for the purpose of setting-up of the medical centre outside the perimeter of the airport.
“As per the minutes of the meeting obtained from the AAI, doctors and paramedical staff were to be posted at the centre by the State government while expenses for medicine and others were to be borne by the AAI,” the village leaders said and added that Shillong MP Vincent H Pala had agreed to provide medical equipment and an ambulance to the medical centre.
The leaders also expressed concern over reports that there is a move to construct a community hall instead of a medical centre now. The village leaders further urged the concerned authority to take steps to speed-up the project for the benefit of the people of Umroi.
