TURA: The Independent legislator from South Tura constituency, John Leslee K Sangma, has accused the ruling NPP-led alliance in the GHADC of lying about issuing an invite to elected representatives of the state to attend the recent vigilance and monitoring committee meeting at Circuit House that was chaired by Tura MP Conrad K. Sangma.
The review meeting on January 13 had discussed the implementation of ongoing projects with the Rs 100.71-crore central fund.
“We (MLAs) did not receive any invitation and were thus denied participation in the meeting,” alleged John Leslee while hitting out at GHADC chairman Boston Marak who had claimed that invites were given to all the Garo Hills MLAs.
“While in Kolkata on January 11, I received information from Tura MDC Rupert Sangma, who in turn heard about the news from another person. I tried calling CEM Denang T. Sangma but there was no answer and it was only from the GHADC secretary that I got a confirmation,” said Leslee.
“The meeting went ahead and the Chairman told media persons that all MDCs and MLAs were invited but did not attend. This is a serious insinuation as it is suggestive of the MLAs and MDCs being irresponsible and ignorant,” said the Tura legislator.
He has demanded a probe into the issue and asked the GHADC chairman to give proof of the invite given to the legislators failing which “the matter will be taken up with the privilege committee of the State Assembly”.
