Headman’s house gutted by fire

SHILLONG: The house of a village headman at Mawkynrew Block, East Khasi Hills was gutted by fire on Friday.The residents of the area informed that the house of the headman at Nohron village was gutted by fire at around 12 pm.Though the cause of the fire is yet to be known, the residents noticed the incident when they saw smoke billowing out from his house, and they rushed to help the family and douse the fire, but in vain. Besides the loss of belongings including books and clothes, many valuable documents belonging to village were also destroyed in fire.  The residents have urged people to provide financial assistance to rebuild the house.
