SHILLONG: The Mawmluh Tourism Co-Operative Society, along with the Meghalaya Adventurers’ Association, recently organised a cleaning drive at the famous Mawkhyrdop Cave in Mawmluh in East Khasi Hills.
Students from Rama Krishna Mission Secondary School, Mawmluh, members of Pongshai SHG, Ka Seng Samla Mawmluh and village elders took part in the drive on March 25 despite the inclement weather.
The drive was followed by a brief awareness session on caves and caving.
The historic Mawkhyrdop Cave is located at Lum Lawbah in the backyard of the Mawmluh Cherra Cements Limited. The cave length is 7.2km. A stream runs inside the cave. MCCL quarries limestone from Lum Mawkhyrdop.
