AMPATI: Minister of Sports and Youth Affairs Zenith M. Sangma has emphasised on the need for teachers who can provide quality education in rural areas on a par with schools in cities.
Addressing a gathering at the foundation stone laying ceremony for Salmanpara Secondary School building in Zikzak C&RD Block in South West Garo Hills, Sangma said the Government is focusing on education to bridge the imbalances in the system in urban and rural areas.
“Under the ADB-funded project, sanction has been given to 117 schools across the State for construction and upgrade of infrastructure,” he added.
Both the minister and local MLA and chief whip W.D Sangma are alumni of the school that was established in 1983.
The construction of the school building is being funded by Asian Development Bank (ADB) under the project called “Supporting Human Capital Development in Meghalaya”, which is the first of its kind in the country.
