SHILLONG: The Supreme Court has fixed one-week deadline for the State government to inform jailed GNLA chairman Champion Sangma about all cases which are pending against him and the status of each case.
In the order issued on April 7 after dismissing the special leave petition filed by Sangma, the Apex Court said that since non-bailable warrants were issued against the petitioner in some other cases, it does not want to interfere with the order of the High Court.
The High Court in its order last month upheld the order of the Additional District Magistrate, Baghmara, since the accused was wanted in connection with a 2011 case in Baghmara police station in which a non-bailable warrant of arrest is pending against him.
The Supreme Court in its order said that “however, it would always be open to the petitioner to seek cancellation of those non-bailable warrants, and whenever such steps are taken, the concerned court will deal with the application without being influenced by any observations made by the High Court and such application shall be dwelt with its own merits”.
