Conrad seeks Council budget cut rollback

SHILLONG: A delegation of Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC) led by Tura MP,  Conrad Sangma submitted a memorandum to the Union Government ministers pertaining to the  reduction of Revised Budget  2016-17 allocated to the areas covered under Six Scheduled of the Constitution of India.
Deputy CEM GHADC Augustine R. Marak,  Civil Works  Executive Member (EM) Dipul Marak,  Finance EM Sengnal Sangma and Chairman Planning Sub-Committee S. G.E. Momin accompanied by MP Tura Conrad Sangma appraised the sanctioning authorities to reconsider the 2016-17 budget allocation in the Actual Budget.
The delegation met  Jitendra Singh, Union DoNER Minister, Ashok Lavasa, Union Secretary Finance  (expenditure ) and Arjun Ram Megwal Union  Minister of State,  Expenditure. It may be mentioned that Conrad was present during the Forum of Councils under the Sixth Schedule (FOCUSS) held recently at the KHADC in which the fund cut from Rs 1,000 cr to Rs 1 cr was discussed.
CEM KHADC P N Syiem expressed concern that during the 2016-17, the Central Government has budgeted Rs 1000 crore but during the year when they revised the budget 2016-17, it has been revised to Rs 1 crore.
Again, there was a reduction in the budget allocation to Rs 500 crore for the year 2017-18 and in the FOCUSS meeting they have decided to ask the Central Government to enhance the amount.
