SHILLONG: Despite the proposed implementation of Goods and Services Tax (GST) in Meghalaya along with the rest of nation, sale of high speed diesel, motor spirit and alcohol will be taxed here separately.
An official source said the state will retain its taxation power on the sale of these three commodities.
Earlier on Friday, Meghalaya Governor Banwarilal Purohit had also indicated this in his address in the Assembly.
He had said the taxation department was fully geared up for smooth implementation of GST.
According to the Governor, GST will be the most significant indirect tax reform in the country that will merge the two spheres of indirect taxation currently collected under the Central Sales Tax Act.
