SHILLONG: The State government has decided to segregate the selection process for Meghalaya Civil Service (MCS) and Meghalaya Police Service (MPS) officers.
Replying to questions in the Assembly on Wednesday, the chief minister said there was no separate selection process in the past.
Raising a question, UDP’s Paul Lyngdoh said as many MPS officers opted for MCS, this may affect the seniority of MCS officers.
He pointed out that the migration of MPS officers to MCS will reduce the manpower strength in the police.
However, the chief minister said this will not affect the strength of the police.
To a question, Sangma said in the last five years, there are as many as 42 vacant posts of MCS officers and 15 in respect of MPS officers.
The chief minister said for vacancies in MCS, the MPSC will conduct the recruitment and for those in MPS, the proposal for direct recruitments is being processed.
