Assam CM greets people on Diwali

Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi on Tuesday greeted the people on the eve of Diwali celebrations. In a message, Gogoi prayed that the festival of lights will dispel all darkness in the hearts and minds of the people. (UNI)

Man held with pistol from train

Guwahati: A man was arrested with a pistol from Howrah-bound train at the Guwahati railway station in Assam on Tuesday.

Police said, one Mark Narzary was arrested from the Kamrup Express at Guwahati by the government railway police.

One pistol and 43 rounds of ammunition were recovered from him.

Narzary was carrying an identity card which showed him as a resident of Dimapur.

He was on the way to New Bongaigaon in lower Assam. Police are investigating the possible terrorist connection with Narzary. (UNI)

Nagaland SBI launches ‘Bank On Wheels’

Kohima: The State Bank of India has launched an ambitious programme called ‘Bank on Wheels’ in Nagaland with the objective of providing banking services to un-banked blocks in the state.

Briefing mediapersons at SBI Regional office, Dimapur, yesterday, SBI officials A K Das (AGM), David Kire, Chief Manager of SBI Lead Bank and T A P Paul (Manager RMME) said out of 196 villages with population over 2000, SBI covers 145 villages.

Out of the total 17 un-banked blocks in Nagaland, SBI has taken up the task of opening branches or business correspondents or business facilitators (BCs or BFs) in six blocks, including villages in far-flung areas along the Indo-Myanmar border. The programme under ‘Financial Inclusion’ project as laid down by Centre and Reserve Bank of India was launched in six blocks on October 18. (UNI)

Experts to put Palatana instrument in place

Agartala: ONGC Tripura Power Company Ltd, biggest ever investment in power sector in northeast India, has brought an expert engineers from Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd (BHEL) to install over dimensional generation instrument in Palatana project in South Tripura. OTPC officials hereon Tuesday said over dimensional consignments had reached in project sites in August last via Ashuganj sea port of Bangladesh and it got held up between Agartala and Palatana. (UNI)
