Cooks’ Alliance Workshop at NESFAS

SHILLONG: Cooks’ Alliance workshop was held at NESFAS office on Saturday. Anita Roy, board member of NESFAS, and local cooks of Khweng and Nongtraw shared cooking techniques.
The workshop aimed at motivating the communities to focus on vegetables as an important food source, in this case to also encourage the use of wild edible plants found in their villages.
The workshop also shared the importance of different food consumption for a healthy diet, which can also be achieved through recipe fusion and flavour innovations.
Cooks’ Alliance consists of a network of cooks and chefs who value the potential of traditional ingredients and are involved in the promotion of innovative local cuisines.
Among the participants were Platina Mujai, the owner of Mei Ramew café at Khweng, Dial Muksor, the owner of a local food stall at Khweng, Pliemon Barim, cook at ICDS Khweng, Tharaina Riahtam, cook at the Midday meal programme at Nongtraw, and Barilin Ranee, who works for the promotion of local foods of Nongtraw.
