 Nongrim Hills, Lumsohphoh, win in cricket tourney
Shillong: Nongrim Hills Sports Club won the first match against Mawshbuit Sports Club by two wickets in the first Uplifter Open K-out Cricket Tournament 2017 at Madan Nongthymmai here. Mawshbuit Sports Club batted first and were all-out for 37 runs in 8.3 overs. In reply, Nongrim Hills chased the target in 7.5 overs losing seven wickets. In the second match, Lumsohphoh Black Royal Star won by 74 runs against Nongkhyriem Boys. Lumsohphoh Black Royal Star scored a massive total of 111 runs for the loss of seven wickets in ten overs. In reply, Nongkhyriem Boys were bundled out for 37 runs. In the final match of the day, Nongkseh United won by three wickets. Demthring CC elected to bat first and scored 42 runs losing all their wickets in 8.4 overs. In reply, Nongkseh United achieved the total in 9.4 overs losing six wickets.

Manchester City hold Liverpool in EPL tie
Manchester: Manchester City played out a 1-1 draw with Liverpool in an English Premier League (EPL) tie at the Etihad Stadium here. James Milner converted a penalty to open the scoring for Liverpool six minutes into the second half on Sunday evening, reports Efe news agency. Mancherter City equalised at the 69-minute mark when Kevin De Bruyne sent a cross from the right to Sergio Aguero, who found the target. Manchester City held onto third place in the standings with 57 points, just one point ahead of Liverpool, while Chelsea leads the standings with 69 points. (IANS)

AIFF confirms friendlies with Lebanon and Palestine
New Delhi: The All India Football Federation (AIFF) on Monday confirmed two more international friendlies for the Indian team to be played in June and October. In addition to the international friendly against Cambodia scheduled for March 22, the Indians will be playing two more matches as part of their preparations for the AFC Asian Cup qualifiers. While a tie against Lebanon has been confirmed for June 7, the match against Palestine will be played on October 2. The venue for both the matches hasn’t been finalised as yet. “The AIFF is leaving no stone unturned to provide the best of preparation for the national team. I hope the two matches would serve as an ideal build-up for future matches in the AFC Asian Cup Qualifiers,” AIFF General Secretary Kushal Das said in a statement India’s first match in the AFC Asian Cup Qualifiers is slated against Myanmar on March 28 in Yangon. Bayern, Schalke win in German Bundesliga
Berlin: Thomas Mueller’s lone goal helped front-runners Bayern Munich to beat Borussia Monchengladbach 1-0 and Schalke 04 overcame FC Mainz 1-0 in their respective Bundesliga matches. Bayern Munich increased their advantage to 13 points atop the standings of the German top division after securing their 19th win of the season, and the fourth in a row, reports Xinhua news agency. Elsewhere, Schalke reaped their second straight win after edging Mainz 1-0 in an away encounter. Both sides staged a contested first half, which ended goalless. Schalke controlled the ball but were unable to pose threat to well organised Mainz defence. (IANS)
