SHILLONG: With the objective of attracting footfalls to unexplored places of East Jaintia Hills, the Discover East Jaintia Tourism Festival, 2017 will be organised on March 24 and 25 in which photo exhibitions of picturesque places in the district will be displayed for tourists.
The Festival, the first of its kind in East Jaintia Hills, which promises to be a treat to nature lovers and adventurers, is expected to draw tourists and locals alike with the revival of traditional food, cultural display, trekking, bike rally and cycling.
Addressing a press conference here on Tuesday, Glorious Bareh, coordinator of Society for Promotion of Tourism, the brain behind the tourism festival said, “We want to show to the world some of the tourist spots in East Jaintia Hills so that people will know more of the place. It will be held at Khliehriat West, Youth Welfare Playground, Khliehriat.”
The Society for Promotion of Tourism is organising the event in collaboration with the East Jaintia Hills district administration.
“Other attractions will be the cultural programmes, traditional food, trekking along the east west eco trail and Prang River off road, bike rally, cycling, all faith choir and a concert,” he said.
The trekking will start from Ialong park and head to Tuberkmai village via Pynthor Langtein while the bike rally will begin from Khliehriat and proceed to Rymbai, Borkhat, Huroi and Hinguria before coming back to Khliehriat.
Some of the bands scheduled to perform on the last day of the festival include Melominds, the Scores, Agape, Enbloc Bond and Chyrmang Link.
Bareh stated that the main tourist attractions to be highlighted in the festival are Ryngi Falls, Lakoh Falls, Phea Phea Falls, Lamu falls, Leska Falls and Rapati Falls. The caves listed in the itinerary for the festival include Liat Hati, Kotsati, Umlawan, Liat Noh Prah, Krem Labit etc.
