Garo Hills protest
SHILLONG/TURA: The administration in five Garo Hills district has directed all shops and trading houses to do business as usual during the dawn-to-dusk non-cooperation protest on Thursday and Friday.
The protest call was given by a group of Garo organisations that is demanding action against police personnel involved in the Resubelpara firing.
In West Garo Hills, Deputy Commissioner Pravin Bakshi issued an order on Wednesday that said the call for closure of shops is grossly illegal and in direct violation of the High Court order against bandhs.
“It attracts provisions of the Meghalaya Maintenance of Public Order (Amendment) Act of 2013,” the order stated.
In another order, the DC directed all central and state government employees, both regular and on contract, to attend their duties and report at 10 am.
It further said if a government employee is “physically stopped from coming to office or intimidated”, then an FIR should be lodged. Banks too will remain open during the non-cooperation protest.
