Cabinet passes M’laya Social Audit Bill

SHILLONG: The State Cabinet on Wednesday approved the Meghalaya Community Participation and Public Services Social Audit Bill, 2017.
Speaking to media persons after the meeting, Chief Minister Mukul Sangma said that the Bill would enable the government to audit all the developmental programmes being implemented by various line departments.
“This is being done as part of our commitment to ensure effective and transparent delivery of various developmental programmes,” Sangma said.
According to Sangma, the idea of introducing the social audit bill was referred in his  budget speech.
The Bill which was approved in the Cabinet will be tabled before the Assembly during the ongoing budget session.
