Lawyers abstain from work

SHILLONG: Members of the Shillong Bar Association abstained from work on Friday while extending support to the nationwide protest of ‘Advocates (Amendment) Bill, 2017’ proposed by the Law Commission of India.
AS a result of the protest, as many as 25 cases were adjourned in the High Court.
The Bar Council of India (BCI) passed a resolution on March 26 on ‘Advocates (Amendment), Bill, 2017 proposed by the Law Commission of India’, calling all the Bar Councils and Bar Associations across the country to abstain from court work on March 31 as a form of a token of protest against the proposed amendment Bill.

Lawyers from East Garo Hills under the Williamnagar Bar Association on Friday boycotted official work in connection with the Court as part of the Nationwide protest against the ‘Advocates (Amendment) Bill, 2017 proposed by the Law Commission to the Government of India.
