NONGPOH: Chief Minister Mukul Sangma inaugurated Bhoirymbong C&RD block in Umroi on Wednesday and laid the foundation stone for the block headquarters at Khapmara.
Addressing the gathering at the inaugural function, the Chief Minister said, “The new C&RD block at Bhoirymbong village will enable close coordination between locals and the Government for smooth implementation of development schemes.”
Sangma lauded the villages in the State for implementing MGNREGS and spoke about various government initiatives like agriculture, aquaculture, BTRS and other schemes “which will be of immense benefit to the citizens and ultimately transform the State into a prosperous one”.
Others who spoke on the inaugural ceremony include Minister of Community and Rural Development Sniawbhalang Dhar, Umsning legislator Celestine Lyngdoh, and Umroi legislator Ngaitlang Dhar, among others.
Youth protest over jobs
A group of local youths under the banner of Seng Sangma Bhoirymbong Pyllun protested with banners and placards against lack of employment opportunities in the newly created Bhoirymbong C&RD block.
The youths alleged that the Central Executive Committee of Bhoirymbong Pyllun has failed to negotiate with the government on giving first preference for jobs to the qualified unemployed youths of the area.
Hoverlin Syiemlieh, general secretary of Seng Samla Shnong Bhoirymbong Pyllun, said they are not against inauguration of the C&RD block but their concern was regarding job opportunities.
He also said most of the local youths are qualified and eligible for various vacant posts in this office but none of the locals were selected. He also cried foul play in the interview process. “We will fight for our rights till the end,” Syiemlieh said.
No name
The plaque put up during the foundation stone laying for the Bhoirymbong headquarters did not have the names of local MLA C. Lyngdoh and other higher officials from the C&RD Department on it.
