CM inaugurates Mukdangra Secondary School building
AMPATI: Chief Minister Mukul Sangma on Monday said that more teacher training schools will be opened in the State for quality education.
While inaugurating the new building of Mukdangra Secondary School in South West Garo Hills, Sangma said that the government plans to give a scholarship of Rs 5000 so that the youths who aspire to become teachers can benefit.
He also informed the gathering that community colleges would be set up across the State which would be managed by communities and which would not be confined to district headquarters.
The school building was built under the Inter-State Border Area Development Programme (ISBADP) 2014-15 through the Border Area Development Department. The school was established in February 1980 and the construction of the building was completed last year at a cost of Rs 30 lakh
The function held on the school premises near Garobadha was attended by local MLA of Rangsakona constituency and Minister for Sports & Youth Affairs Zenith Sangma besides Government Chief Whip W. D.Sangma, MDC of Dengnakpara S. R.M. Sangma, Deputy Commissioners of West and South West Garo Hills, Pravin Bakshi and C.V.D. Diengdoh, officials of the department, district officials and school managing committee members, teachers and students of the school.
The Chief Minister said that ISBADP was launched in 2012 to bridge the critical gaps in development along the inter-state border areas. “It is a State programme which is not found in any other states across the country,” he said.
Mukul also spelt out a number of development projects, including the national highway projects being funded by JICA. Stating that IMR and MMR rate was the highest in the region, he said that more maternity and child hospitals would be established in the State and one of them would be located between Garobadha and Mukdangra.
Referring to the memorandum submitted by the Mukdangra SMC, he assured the gathering that the approach road from the main highway to the school and beyond would be sanctioned in March this year and that additional fund for extension of the school building would also be sanctioned soon.
Zenith Sangma briefed the gathering as to how he had visited all the secondary schools under his area and listed those that required infrastructure.
He said that a number of school buildings were being constructed under various schemes like ISBADP and ADB-funded Human Capital Development project, among others.
