Marvelene’s Inn rape case: Four more charge-sheets on the sex racket case awaited

SHILLONG: Though the 14-year-old victim in the sex racket case identified the photograph of one Prof. Roy as provided by the police, no breakthrough has been made yet to trace him.
Prof. Roy is one among the four persons who are yet to be arrested in the sex-racket case.
Others are an elderly businessman from Borsora who raped the girl in a hotel at Police Bazar, an army officer who is the friend of one Sagar who is known to the trafficker, and another elderly person who exploited the minor girl at a guest house with a swimming pool somewhere in Ri Bhoi.
A source said since the photo of Prof. Roy, a teacher in a career institute in the city, has been identified by the victim, police should have published the photo so that the public can help in assisting the police to trace out the accused by providing information in time.
Though the police had posted photographs of other wanted persons on the Meghalaya police website, neither the photo of Prof. Roy nor the sketches of the remaining three figure on the website.
The police was prompt in charge-sheeting the case related to Mawhati MLA Julius Dorphang who was also involved in the sex racket, but four more charge-sheets are pending.
While the women police personnel of Laban, Madanrting and the Investigation Officer of Umiam are making progress in filing charge-sheet in the cases entrusted to them, the fate of the inquiry by the woman police officer at Sadar Police station, V. Tariang, who is dealing with one of the cases related to the crime, is yet to be known as she refused to respond to calls and text messages.
A source pointed out the illogical step of the police to hand over the case to Tariang at a time when the former OC of Madanrting, Inspector B.K Mishra, had effected a few arrests related to the case.
