SHILLONG: A body of traditional heads in Khasi Hills met recently to discuss the various legislations passed by the state government and the Autonomous District Council.
The Dorbar Ki Khlieh Nongsynshar, Ri Hynniewtrep—comprising Federation of Khasi States (FKS), Sirdarship, Dorbar, Dolloi, Nokma and other traditional heads—met on February 21 and discussed the Meghalaya Building Byelaws 2011, the Khasi Hills Autonomous District (Land Development and Building) Regulation 2015, the Administration of Nongstoin Syiemship Rules 2006 and the Administration of Mylliem Syiemship Rules 2015.
It was decided that the legislations, especially those related to building laws, would be discussed in the Assembly of the various traditional bodies to create awareness on the new restrictions and regulations.
The Syiems, Sirdar, Lyngdoh and others were upset because none of the legislations were drafted in Khasi and Garo. The Federation questioned the new regulation that mandates registration of land document thrice.
The traditional body also resolved to meet the Chief Minister and the Chief Executive Member of KHADC to seek a clarification on the implementation of the Instrument of Accession and Annexed Agreement.
